I talk a lot about my life, living with Crohn’s Disease. My instagram is @crohnswithme and I did set this up as a safe space to post about, almost as a visual diary, and the document the ups and downs of Crohn’s.

As you can see from this blog, travelling and exploring is a huge passion of mine. It makes me feel alive and I wish I has started to travel more a lot earlier. But the truth is, behind my favourite photos I am a normal 25 year old with a really normal, un-glamorous life. I am a fiancé, a dog mum and a home owner. The latter means I have bills to pay, and I do work full time.

I have a 9-5, Monday to Friday. Needs must I suppose.

In all seriousness, I love what I do for work because I love the opportunity it has given me to date. I put a lot into my professional development because I want to build a solid career and as much as there are some areas that I would change, the business has been good to me – really understanding and really supportive, when it comes to my health.

So right now, I put a lot of emphasis on this area of my life. I’m awake at 6:30am, I dress up, show up and put as much effort as I can into every day.

A lot of people tell me that life isn’t about work etc, and I get that. My health is just as important but trust me when I say that I know my body best. I have a house, a mortgage and bills to pay. If I didn’t work, or if I earned less it would mean that I wouldn’t be able to afford my home. I would be more stressed and subsequently more ill if I was constantly worrying about money, or scraping by each month. Honestly, knowing that I have control puts me in the best possible position. Knowing that I am building a solid foundation for my future is the best thing I could possibly do for my health.

I understand that this is a strange concept to some, but as with anything Crohn’s related, we all deal with things in different ways and this is another example of that.

Outside of work, and at the weekend you will find me resting up loads, walking my dog (Rex) and at the moment planning my wedding! Last but not least, you will almost always find me Googling holiday deals.
There is so much going on but it is all positive stuff. I guess you could say that I am working to live the life I want.

What do you do for work, and do you focus on professional development?
